Edna Krabappel was a frustrated teacher.

She taught at public school in Springfield, but by now she had lost all momentum of passion.

 She noticed how over the years students were increasingly unruly. The coup de grace had given it the spread of cell phones. That day in May had been revealing. Her every word fell on deaf ears, unheeded, while the boys in the classroom were completely kidnapped by cell phone screens.

 Yet that revelation was far from being the worst event of the day. Unfortunately for her, Sideshow Bob had chosen her as the new designated victim of her revenge course.
